Second victory of the year with Besaplast Racing

Fredrik Lestrup scored his second win of the year when he and Besaplast Racing finished first in the SP2 class and sixth overall with the Audi TT-RS in the 12 hour race at Zandvoort. The race starting with a three hour part on Friday and followed up with a nine hour part on Saturday was action filled with many incidents on the narrow circuit at the beaches of Zandvoort.

The team was fourth in class and 14th overall after Friday due to some mechanical problems during the later part of the Friday race. Re-starting on Saturday morning the team steadily climbed through the field and in the end finished first in class, six laps ahead of the second placed car in the class.
“This was the first 12-hour race at Zandvoort and the organization was very good with great work from the marshals,” Fredrik says. “There was a lot of incidents during the race and lapping cars was tricky with a lot of cars and a narrow track. We deliberately started cautiously and avoided getting into any incidents. Unfortunately we had a small mechanical issue early in the race that cost us some time but other than that a faultless race. I’m happy with the result and our second victory of the year and as always great fun driving the Audi and once again big thanks to Besaplast for another opportunity with them. This was a good warm-up for the legendary 24-hour race at Nürburgring in a few weeks.”

Going for 12 hours at Zandvoort with Besaplast Racing

Fresh from his third race weekend in the Australian Dunlop V8 Supercar series in Perth Fredrik Lestrup now heads over to Europe and Holland for the 12 hour race at Zandvoort. He will once again join the German Besaplast Racing team for an endurance race and this time in the teams fast Audi TT RS.
“The Audi is great to drive and very fast so I’m really looking forward to this race,” Fredrik says. “Zandvoort is one of those really classic tracks and I really enjoyed racing at it in 2012 in the ADAC GT Masters. It will suit the Audi really well and we will aim for a top result overall with this car. There are a few GT3 cars that are faster but as we’ve proved at Nürburgring the Audi can hold its own against the GT3 cars and mix in among them. With some clever strategy and a bit of luck we can spring a bit of a surprise. Thanks again as always to Besaplast for the confidence shown in me.”

Fredrik will share the car with Besaplast Racing team owner Franjo Kovac and Besaplast Racing team regular Martin Tschnornia.

The 12-hour race is split up in two parts due to local noice restrictions which means the race will start on Friday at 4 pm in the afternoon and run for three hours until 7 pm. Cars will then be entered in parc fermé until the restart at 10 am on Saturday when they will race for nine hours until the finish at 7 pm.

Season best in Perth – 13th in second race

Fredrik Lestrup and the Pacific Hoists R-sport team had a solid weekend in Perth where Fredrik Lestrup scored a season best 13th position in race 2 and 15th position in race 1.

Building on the progress made in Winton the team found further pace and had a more solid weekend altogether at Barbagallo Raceway. After adjusting some balance problems in practice where Fredrik was 17th and 19th fastest he qualified 18th overall for race 1. After the start Fredrik was able to gain some positions and made his way up to 15th but with the rear tyres going off he was unable to challenge for further attacks up the field.

In the second race on Sunday he started 14th after another driver pulled out of the race. He then proceeded to climb to 13th place, a season best so far in the third weekend of the season. Fredrik felt this was a more solid weekend and they could build on the pace found at Winton.

“All in all a good weekend with over 100 guests with the team over the weekend. I’m happy we managed to have a solid weekend although I badly want to get into the top 10 which we have the pace for. After some adjustments after practice we had a good first race and I could gain a few positions early on but unfortunately the rear tyres went off too early. Finishing 13th in the second race was an encouragement although I really wanted to get into top 10. Still it was my best race finish so far and we are slowly showing progress. Thanks to the team and everyone at Pacific Hoists. Now it’s time to get ready for Townsville in a few weeks!” Fredrik summarizes.

Going to Perth and Barbagallo Raceway

Round 3 in the Dunlop V8 Supercars Championship is coming up this weekend and Fredrik Lestrup together with the Pacific Hoists R-sport team heads to Western Australia for the champioship weekend at Barbagallo Raceway. Fredrik is looking forward to the event.
– It feels great to be back in the V8 Supercar again and to be at this event, he says. It’s another new track for me but I feel positive for this weekend. Although it was a messy weekend at Winton we took another step forward in performance and had good speed in the second race. Now I look forward to consolidate the promise and speed we’ve shown in the first two weekends into a good weekend here in Perth. I must qualify better and as a team we must find our real pace right away so we can qualify where we can race speed wise. If we do that it should be possible to hold our own around the top 10 and that’s my goal for this weekend.

The quick and short Barbagallo Raceway is another new track for Fredrik who had his first impressions of the track on Thursday.
– The lap is very short but with a lot of corners and a few quick ones. There’s a lot of trail braking around the lap and the gravel traps are definetly something to avoid here. It looks like a fun track and I look forward to race here. We also have a lot of guests with the team this weekend so it would be great to give them some entertainment and a good weekend.

Fredrik Lestrup
